SUMMARY:**CANCELLED** Resume & Cover Letter Workshop
DESCRIPTION:On the job market and not sure where to start? Updating your
resume? Want to know what recruiters are looking for? Register for this
interactive workshop led by Carla Vastine and Sam Sorensen to learn ways to
present your skills\, work and volunteer experience\, and interests
effectively to potential employers. You may bring hard copies of your
resume/cover letter or a device to work on. If you do not have access to a
device and would like one\, please contact Sam at
ssorensen@ccls.org.\n\n\nCarla Vastine worked for eight years at Career
Consultants Inc.\, starting as a Sales Recruiter and\, ultimately\, as
Branch Manager and Major Accounts Representative. While at Career
Consultants\, Carla collaborated with people seeking all levels of
employment\, from entry level positions for recent grads to higher level
sales management positions for experienced sales professionals. In addition
to matching job seekers with client companies for interviews and\,
ideally\, job placement\, Carla advised job seekers on how to create
compelling cover letters and resumes. Carla's direct contact with hiring
managers throughout the interview process allowed her to get an "insider's
view" about what companies seek in resumes and cover letters as well as in
interviews. The hiring manager perspective\, combined with her coursework
in Counseling and Master's Degree in Education\, enable Carla to
effectively counsel prospective job seekers about successful cover letter
and resume writing strategies.\n\nSam Sorensen taught college writing for
six years\, tutored in a university writing center for five years\, and
worked as an editor for online publications and freelance hire before
coming to Tredyffrin as the Adult Programming Coordinator. They have taught
previous workshops on crafting resumes and cover letters while helping job
seekers navigate the intimidating job-hunting landscape. Their extensive
background positions them as a kind and knowledgable coach for writers of
all skill levels. \n\nThis program fulfills PA Forward's Basic Literacy
through "developing foundational competency including reading\, writing\,
math\, job application assistance\, and overall life-skill development."
