Duffy's Cut Update: Tragedy on the Pennsylvania Railroad

Duffy's Cut Update: Tragedy on the Pennsylvania Railroad Online

In 1832, 57 Irish Catholic workers arrived in Philadelphia to lay one of the most difficult miles of American railway, known as Duffy’s Cut, located in East Whiteland Township, Chester County, PA. Their American Dream ended in an unmarked mass grave a little more than six weeks after their arrival in the United States.

Join authors and brothers, William and Frank Watson, as they discuss the history and archaeology at Duffy’s Cut and talk about the new spinoff site in Downingtown. They will also discuss the site in Spring City where Irish canal workers died under similar circumstances.

William E. Watson is Professor of History at Immaculata University (PhD, UPenn) and J. Frank Watson is pastor of Christ Lutheran Church in Whiting, NJ (PhD, Drew). They have led the Duffy's Cut Project since its inception in 2003.

They have released two books based on their research and archaeological digs, both available through the Chester County Library System.
