Citizen Science: Observing Pollinators/ The Great Sunflower Project at Springton Manor Farm In-Person
Join the Chester County Library, Chester County Parks and Preservation and the Friends of Springton Manor Farm in the SciStarter Citizen Science program "Oberving Pollinators" in the Pollinator Garden at Springton Manor Farm County Park.
Learn about pollinators and why they are so impotant. Use the Citizen Science kits, made available by the library to make hands on observations and identify pollinators and the plants they are frequenting. The Great Sunflower Project is the largest citizen science project focused on pollinators, with over 100,000 participants and counting. Volunteers are asked to find any plant (like a sunflower), observe it for five or more minutes, record all pollinators (like bees or butterflies) that visit, and report the data online. This project helps identify where pollinators are declining and determine how we can help improve their habitats. We need pollinators. They help produce more than one-third of our food!
We will gather at the Chester County Park, Springton Manor Farm 860 Springton Rd. Glenmoore, PA 19343 in the upper parking lot, and then walk the short distance to the Pollinator Garden.
Learn about SciStarter Citizen Science Projects and how you can help make a difference by participating in this and many other projects like it. A variety of Citizen Science/ SciStarter kits are available at the Chester County Library for you to check out and use. You may wish to check ou and then register for SciStarters Citizen Science at www.SciStarter.org prior to the program. Observations are submitted online.
Registration is required. This event supports PA Forward® Civic and Social Literacies.
