Virtual: Stealing the Body of Abraham Lincoln Online
Join historical lecturer Michael Jesberger for a presentation on a strange tale of our 16th President. Years after President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated, in the 1870’s, a band of criminals failed in an attempt to steal Lincoln’s body from his tomb in Springfield, Illinois. This program will focus on the attempted kidnapping of the body for ransom and will discuss the debate and decision on where the president was to be buried and how his final resting place became a monument that is visited by thousands every year.
Michael S. Jesberger is an independent military historian who specializes in the American Revolutionary and Civil War Time periods. He is renowned for his engaging and passionate presentation style, whether providing formal lectures, living history presentations or tours of historic sites.
