FREE AND DETERMINED TO BE FREE: The Hinsonville-Hosanna-Lincoln Legacy
Join us for a presentation by Dr. Cheryl Renée Gooch as she discusses the lives
of men from the free Black community of Hinsonville who served in the war to
end slavery, and how many of us descend from families who witnessed and
shaped history.
Dr. Cheryl Renée Gooch is an active researcher and the author of Hinsonville’s
Heroes: Black Civil War Soldiers of Chester County, Pennsylvania (The History
Press, 2018). Copies of her book will be available for purchase.
This program will take place at Lincoln University Library (1570 W Baltimore Pike, Lincoln University) and is sponsored by
Avon Grove Library, Lincoln University, and Oxford Library.
