Open Hours in the Children's Makerspace In-Person
Our team is pleased to offer Open Hours this summer in the Children’s Makerspace. Each week, the Children’s Makerspace will host a different theme for patrons to explore – no registration required, just stop by!

July 7-11 - Wind Wands
Learn about wind energy with this simple Wind Generator project! Turn on an LED with the power of Wind! All it takes is a strong blow and the fan turns, powering the LED.
July 14-18 - Indi Robot Exploration
Code our Indi Robot cars with colored tiles. Solve puzzles and mazes and create your own tracks for Indi to drive!
July 21-25 - Mechanical Automata- Inspired by Inventors in Motion
Continue the celebration of invention with a closer look at how things work! Before heading up to the Children’s Makerspace, stop by the Art Gallery to explore Hagley Museum patents and discover how inventors designed machines to solve everyday problems. Inspired by these real-world innovations, kids will dive into cardboard construction, mechanics, and simple automation. Using cardboard, hot glue, and wooden dowels, they’ll design and build a moving machine of their own. Along the way, they’ll experiment with motion, test their ideas, and problem-solve like true engineers. From spinning parts to moving pieces, this week is all about bringing inventions to life!
July 28 - August 1 - Parachute Challenge
Design and build a parachute to help a LEGO friend land safely from a tall height. Kids will apply their knowledge of gravity and material science while learning about drag and air resistance in this week’s STEM challenge.
Please note: Children under eleven must be under the direct supervision of a responsible caregiver (at least 16 years of age) at all times while on Library premises, pursuant to the Library’s Policy on Unattended Children. Please visit our list of policies here.
