NASA's Lucy Mission: Discovering the Formation of Planets In-Person

Meet Dr. Donald Miller, NASA Solar System Ambassador and discover how planets are formed. We live on a planet circling a somewhat average star.  This planet gives us a place to live, it protects us from space radiation, it provides food and air to breathe.  But how do planets like ours or even different types of planets actually form?  This is an area of research that still has many unknowns.

The NASA Lucy mission is on its way to visit and explore the asteroids that orbit ahead of and behind the planet Jupiter.  They are called trojan asteroids.  The materials from which these bodies are composed represent a treasure trove of information about the earliest components of our solar system and thus could shed light on how planets form, or in the case of the asteroids, don’t form.
