The AI Shift: How Smart Tools Are Changing the Way We Think, Work, and Learn In-Person
AI is no longer a distant question on the horizon. It’s become baked into every aspect of our daily lives. Whether we’re students, professionals, business owners, or parents helping our kids with their homework at the kitchen table, AI is shaping how we read, write, plan, and communicate, often without us even realizing it.
Join Dr. Susan Ray of DCCC for an accessible introduction to today's most talked about technologies.
Susan approachs this shift not through abstraction, but through lived experience as a college professor, researcher, and parent of two middle schoolers who use AI for both learning and creative exploration. She has also integrated AI into her own writing and course design, examining its capabilities, limitations, and the ethical questions it brings to the surface.
This talk offers a practical and people-centered introduction to generative AI: what it is, how it works, and why it matters. We’ll explore real-world applications across education, everyday life, and business--from helping draft newsletters and organize information to assisting with customer service and creative brainstorming. We’ll also address the real-world controversies surrounding these technologies and discuss what it means to use these tools ethically and responsibly in the modern world.
