Thrivent’s “5 Phases of an IRA” workshop is designed to help individuals—especially those nearing or in retirement—understand how their Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) evolve over time and how to manage them strategically to minimize tax burdens.

Retirement Stages & IRA Phases: The workshop connects five distinct IRA phases to stages of retirement:

Accumulation – Building your IRA through contributions.

Opportunity Zone – Strategic tax planning before Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) begin.

RMDs – Understanding mandatory withdrawals and their tax implications.

First Death – Planning for the surviving spouse or partner.

Second Death – Legacy planning and minimizing taxes for heirs.
