Discover the life of Jane Austen (1775 – 1817) guided by one of our librarians and then play a trivia quiz. Show off your Regency era costume and compete for best dressed! Make a pressed flower bookmark, learn about fan etiquette, try an English Country dance and of course, enjoy a spot of tea with scones. Period music, games & prizes and tea. What could be a better way to spend an autumn afternoon?

Jane Austin was the Regency period author of such classics as “Pride and Prejudiced” and “Sense and Sensibility”. The English writer was born on December 16, 1775, the second anniversary of the Boston Tea Party. She often used tea as a literary tool to bring the sexes together, and the term “tea things” was sometimes used to set the stage for conversation. Tea was seen as a comforting, refreshing, recuperative beverage.
