The imposition of an appropriate sentence is one of the most important decisions in the criminal justice system. The primary resource by which courts determine the sentence of an individual defendant is the Presentence Investigation Report. 

Leslie Maxwell will address the myriad concerns in compiling the presentence investigation report, along with information from the Bureau of Prisons that must be taken into account when deciding where a prisoner ends up following a conviction.

Leslie E. Maxwell is a nationally known and respected expert in the field of federal sentencing and presentence investigation, with 34 years of field experience as a Federal Criminal Investigator. She is a retired Senior US Probation Officer/Federal Sentencing Specialist/Sex Offender Specialist in the US District Court for Eastern District of Pennsylvania. She’s currently an Adjunct Instructor (Courts and the American Criminal Justice System) at Penn State University, Abington.
