Microplastics: The Invisible Pollutant

Microplastics: The Invisible Pollutant In-Person

A new environmental issue has quickly grabbed public attention: microplastics, found everywhere, from the bottom of the ocean to our bloodstreams. Amazingly, each of us ingests a credit card’s worth of plastics weekly-- to unknown effect-- and microplastic particles in the ocean now outnumber the stars in our galaxy by a factor of 500. While research reveals new information almost daily, what don’t we yet know about microplastics? What surprising ways do they get into the ocean-- and into us? And most importantly, what do we do about it?

The lecture is presented by writer-naturalist Mike Weilbacher, who travels the region presenting lectures and walks on nature and the environment, everything from climate change in Philadelphia to the extraordinary life cycle of the monarch butterfly. The author of Wild Philly: Explore the Amazing Nature in and Around Philadelphia, Mike’s programs have reached thousands of people.
