The Europa Clipper Mission- Searching for Life Beyond Earth

The Europa Clipper Mission- Searching for Life Beyond Earth In-Person

Join Dr. Don Miller NASA solar system ambassador and avid amateur astronomer and discover the Europa Clipper Mission as we search for life beyond earth.

Humanity has pondered the question of whether we are alone in the universe since antiquity.  The search for the existence of life beyond the Earth has been ongoing for 60+ years, looking among the stars for other civilizations.  But what if extraterrestrial life isn’t so far away?  Perhaps it exists in our very solar system.  NASA’s ongoing work on Mars is one example of our ongoing search for life beyond our planet, but in that case, it is looking for the signs of life that is no longer there.  There are bodies in our solar system that have what appears to be the conditions for life which might be present today; these bodies are several moons around the gas giants, Jupiter and Saturn.

NASA has a mission which has recently launched to study one of these moons in detail to better understand if life might exist there.  This moon is called Europa and it is the second moon orbiting Jupiter, one of the so-called Galilean moons.  This talk will discuss the Europa Clipper mission and what its goals are in the context of our search for extraterrestrial life in the solar system.
