AARP Foundation Tax- Aide Program In-Person
PLEASE READ COMPLETELY TO SAVE TIME AND EFFORT:
Please be sure to schedule only one appointment if filing jointly.
You’ve got taxes to file. But do-it-yourself software can be confusing — and some paid tax preparation services cost money you might not be able to spend. AARP Foundation Tax-Aide can help. Beginning February 12 and continuing through April 1, AARP Foundation is providing in-person tax assistance and preparation through its Tax-Aide program — and it’s completely free!
AARP Tax-Aide is the nation’s largest free, volunteer-run tax assistance and preparation service. It is available to taxpayers with low and moderate incomes and gives special attention to people aged 60 and older. Tax-Aide volunteers are trained to assist with filing the 1040 Form and more standard schedules, including Schedules A and B. They can assist with the PA-40 as well. Taxpayers with complex tax returns are advised to seek paid tax assistance. Electronic filing (e-filing) is offered with no charge to the taxpayer. E-filing ensures more accurate tax returns and faster processing of tax refunds.
Please be sure to bring these documents with you to your appointment:
Social Security cards and identification for yourself and all anyone else on the return
· copy of last year’s income tax returns
· W-2 forms from each employer
· unemployment compensation statements
· SSA-1099 form if you were paid Social Security benefits
· all 1099 forms (1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-B, etc.) showing interest and/or dividends and documentation showing original purchase price of assets sold
· 1099-misc, 1099-NEC, 1099-KK showing any miscellaneous income
· 1099-R forms
· all forms indicating federal income tax paid
· dependent care provider information (name, employer, ID, Social Security number)
· all receipts or canceled checks if itemizing deductions
Property tax receipts if you are filing a PA-1000
NOTE: The PA-1000 eligibility requirements have changed, and many more people will qualify. This program benefits Pennsylvanians age 65 and older; widows and widowers age 50 and older; and people with disabilities age 18 and older. If you fall into one of those categories and your income is $45,000 or less (count only half your social security + all other income) please bring your property tax receipts or rent information.
An appointment is required. Walk-ins will be accommodated if time allows.
Taxpayers must complete an intake form before the interview process, so you are encouraged to arrive early to complete this form. During your appointment, which usually lasts about an hour, you will be interviewed by the preparer. After your return is reviewed and completed, you will receive an explanation and sign your return. You will leave with everything you brought with you as well as a copy of your 2023 return.
Registration is required. Registration will close 3 days prior to the scheduled start time of the appointment.
Due to high demand for appointment times, if you are unable to make your scheduled time for any reason, please be sure to cancel your appointment on the website or call 610.344.5131 and leave a message of cancellation.
