Join Lisa Alexander Baron and Sam Sorensen to read and discuss works by Black poets and learn the roots of the art.

Lisa Alexander Baron is the author of four poetry collections, including While She Poses based on images of women in visual art (Aldrich P, 2015). Her poems have appeared in ChautauquaTHEMAConfrontation,  The Fourth River, and Philadelphia Stories. She received an MFA from Vermont College of Fine Arts and teaches rhetoric in writing and speech at Philadelphia-area colleges.

Sam Sorensen is a Ph.D. candidate in English at Lehigh University and Tredyffrin Public Library's Adult Programming Coordinator. Their research examines knowledge production, censorship, and youth, and they studied African American literature and Latino Studies. They helped found Lehigh's Institute for Critical Race and Ethnic Studies, trained at two oral history institutes, and worked as a Research Assistant for the Gloria Naylor Archive. 

This program fulfills PA Forward's Civic and Social Literacy through "engaging in discourse while remaining respectful of other individuals of varying opinions; understanding the importance of community engagement which allows individuals to interact with one another, in a participatory manner; invoking societal change."
