KURC Presents: Henry's Freedom Box In-Person
Join Kennett Underground Railroad Center's Darlene Amobi, who will read Henry's Freedom Box and provide contextual background for children to understand better this true story in celebration of Black History Month.
Darleen was a long-time member of the following organizations:
The Delaware Underground Railroad Coalition in Wilmington under Debbie Martin. The
Afro-American Genealogical and Historical Society, (AAGHS), The Quaker Hill Historic
Preservation Foundation under the direction of Attorney Bayard Marin, Kennett Underground Railroad, GHADA, DANA, Hockessin Historical Society under the guidance of Joseph R. Lake and Peter L. Seely. She has received numerous grants for the support of Tweed's Complex and The Annual Juneteenth presentations. She worked at the University of Delaware teaching genealogy computer lab for several years.
She has lectured and/or written articles about abolitionist: Thomas Garrett,
Daniel Kent, Dr. Bartholomew Fussell, C.C. Burleigh, Henry Box Brown, William Still,
Harriet Tubman, Jane Johnson, Passmore Williamson, Maria Weems, William and Ellen Craft, Daniel Gibbons, Lucretia Mott, William Lloyd Garrison, Frederick Douglass, Robert Purvis, Samuel D. Burris, Grace Anne Lewis, Mrs. Frances E.W. Harper, John Hunn and Jacob Heald,
Presently, Darleen is working at Tweed's Tavern, The Tweed's Museum , and the Lamborn Library. She does the cleaning, assists with the herb kitchen garden, makes room reservations, directs tours on the property, teaches about the Underground Railroad in the school system, plans programs showing movies to the Hockessin community, and lectures to the assisted living communities.
