Local Author Meet & Greet: Karen Marshall, "Finding My Father's Footsteps" In-Person
Stop in the library on Sunday, November 17th between 1:00 and 3:00 pm and meet local author and historian Karen Marshall in the front lobby. Karen will have her book “Finding My Father’s Footsteps” on display and will be happy to discuss the book, sign a copy for you and talk about her writing journey.
Finding My Father’s Footsteps: A Journey Within the Battlefields of WWII
Part memoir and part historical chronicle, the story is woven into the 4th Infantry Division’s, 22nd Infantry Regiment’s battle through Europe during WWII. Lt. John Sisson landed on D-Day with the 22nd and despite injuries in Normandy and the Hurtgen Forest was with the regiment on VE Day.
The author based the book on her father’s secret manuscript written in January 1945 detailing his service and a family mystery concerning Heinrich Himmler, Nazi mastermind. She states, “I began the book to try to understand my father’s silence about war. I finished the book to honor that silence.”
Ms. Marshall is a historian living in Chester County, PA where she has done extensive research on historic properties and events including the Battle of Brandywine, waged September 11, 1777. It is her hope that her book will inspire others to research their untold family stories and will be happy to discuss ways to do this during the meet and greet.
