A Message in the Material - Juneteenth Quilt Making & History

A Message in the Material - Juneteenth Quilt Making & History In-Person

Join us as we prepare to celebrate Juneteenth 2023 throughout Chester County with an informative, hands on and fun filled session entitled "A Message in the Material"

Participants, youth and adults will:

Learn about the history and importance of quilts and how they are a part of American folk art.

Explore the rich history of Juneteenth, quilting customs of African Americans, the Underground Railroad, and their use in “Journeying Towards Freedom”.

Be encouraged and taught to make a fabric quilt square that shares their story!

Let's come together around the table and celebrate community, unity, history & understanding.   We believe that our stories are most truly told not alone, but in open, patient collaboration with one another!

All squares will be collected, stitched together and displayed as a collaborative community mozaic acknowledging and celebrating West Chester Juneteenth 2023 - Journeying Towards Freedom!
