White Fragility Book Club In-Person
We are pleased to announce the White Fragility Book Club beginning on March 6, 2023 at 6:00 PM. This book club will consist of small group discussions focusing on Robin DiAngelo's best selling book White Fragility: Why It's So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism. This is an opportunity to have frank and open conversations about systemic racism.
This is going to be a unique book club where we will meet weekly on Monday evenings from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM in the lower level of the library and we will discuss one chapter at each session. We will have a limit of eight participants for these sessions because a small group is the best environment for these discussions. This group will meet in-person at the Coatesville Library (501 E. Lincoln Highway in Coatesville).
The following is a reading schedule for the meetings:
Week 1 (3/6): Forward, Author's Note, Introduction, and Chapter 1
Week 2 (3/13): Chapter 2
Week 3 (3/20): Chapter 3
Week 4 (3/27): Chapter 4
Week 5 (4/3): Chapter 5
Week 6 (4/10): Chapter 6
After Chapter 6, we will take a break and resume the meetings in May. These specific dates will be shared as soon as they are scheduled.
Participants are asked to commit to at least five out of six meetings in the first series. Copies of White Fragility are available to be checked out through the Chester County Library System. Click here to access this title in the online catalog.
Please note - Registration is required by clicking the blue button below.
As mentioned above, these meetings will be on the lower level of the library and navigating two flights of stairs is required. The library does not have an elevator. Please contact Jennifer McLuckie (jmcluckie@ccls.org) if you need an accommodation.
If you have any questions, or if you need assistance with requesting a copy of this book, please contact Jennifer McLuckie at jmcluckie@ccls.org or call the Coatesville Library at 610-384-4115.
