Local Author Talk: Mike Weilbacher: "Wild Philly"

Local Author Talk: Mike Weilbacher: "Wild Philly" In-Person / Online

America’s sixth largest city is home to an incredible abundance of surprising wildlife—you just need to know where to find it! That's where the just-released book Wild Philly: Explore the Amazing Nature in and around Philadelphia by writer-naturalist Mike Weilbacher comes in. Equal parts natural history, field guide, and trip planner, this colorful, family friendly guide highlights the natural aspects of the city's landscapes and regional wildlife. From beautiful flowers and towering trees to majestic birds and surprising city-dwellers like coyotes and beaver, this delightful handbook profiles 101 of the region’s unique species and features colorful images, fun facts, and where they can be found. Also included are descriptions of delightful day trips that help everyone explore natural wonders on hiking trails, in public parks, and even their own backyards. Mike will read from the book, share amazing animal stories, answer all your questions, and sign copies of his book.

Writer-naturalist Mike Weilbacher is an environmental educator with 40 years of experience teaching through lectures, walks, newspaper essays, theatrical performances, and radio. The executive director of the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education in Philadelphia, he is well-known to public radio listeners as “Mike the All-Natural Science Guy” on the award-winning live children’s radio show “Kid’s Corner” on WXPN, where he has been talking to children about nature and the environment for more than 30 years.  Mike’s work has earned him the title of “Citizen Hero” from The Philadelphia Inquirer and Environmental Educator of the Year and Outstanding Conservation Educator from Pennsylvania environmental groups.
