Ethnic History of the Phoenixville Area In-Person / Online

Many groups of people helped establish, settle, and develop Phoenixville through the years. Using old maps and photographs, Jack Ertell of the Historical Society of the Phoenixville Area will trace the community’s history from the earliest Native Americans to the most recent newcomers. The program will look at the various ethnic groups that have helped shape Phoenixville and establish organizations and institutions still part of the community.

Jack Ertell is a former president of the Historical Society of the Phoenixville Area and presently is on their Board of Directors. He serves as the society's Archives Chairman and is the editor and principal writer of the society’s quarterly newsletter. A retired teacher and administrator at the Phoenixville Area High School, he later taught as an Adjunct Instructor of History for both Montgomery County and Delaware County Community colleges.  A resident of the Phoenixville area for over fifty years, he holds degrees in history and political science from Albright College and West Chester University. Active in the Phoenixville community, he holds or has held leadership positions with several community organizations.
